January 2012

Welcome to 2012! Here's hoping that you and yours enjoy a happy and prosperous new year. This part of Missouri is no stranger to snow, but we have yet (at this writing) to see any stick to the ground. While we're all waiting for the white stuff, let's look at this month's issue of the Lake of the Ozarks Business Journal.
Headlining this month's issue is the on-going struggle between property owners, AmerenUE, and FERC (Federal Energy Regulatory Commission). FERC had ruled that structures within the project (Bagnell Dam) would need to be removed. After public outcry, the Fed changed up with a ruling that the structures could now stay and AmerenUE is revising their materials. There are some who still see their property in danger and so the story continues.
We also take a look at legislation designed to keep truck driver's eyes and minds on the road and not on the phone-- in the wake of a fatal accident involving an over-the-road trucker who was sending and receiving texts at the time of the accident.
WWII veterans are few in number now, bearing in mind that the war finished up 65+ years ago. Those still around, are heros in our midst that may be forgotten or overlooked. Nancy takes us into the home of one local veteran who was willing to share his story.
Other stories include the Route 242 ribbon-cutting, Lake Ozark's vision of a master plan for the route, tax information and changes for filing your 2011 return, Osage Beach's budget-- and a lot more.
