"Can Do" Challenge Results

The Camdenton Area Chamber of Commerce Can-Do Challenge collected 18,434 cans and box food for the LAMB House food pantry. Area Churches collected 14,878 items, Business & Organizations collected 2,016 items, and 1,440 canned goods were turned at the Christmas on the Square event.

Lake Presbyterian Church stepped up to the Can-Do Challenge for the 4th year in a row collecting 4,781 items; First Baptist Church collected, 3,323 items, Community Christian Church, collected2,116 items, and St George Episcopal Church, Brotherhood of St. Andrew collected 2,002 items. United Methodist Church, Sonlight Christian Church, Our Saviors Lutheran Church, Graceland Church and Lake Family Church turned in a total 2,653 items.

In the Business & Organization category, Kinderhook Association collected, 1,038 items to win first place. Mac Decker - State Farm Insurance, Kiwanis Club and Gull-Ables collected an additional 1,673 items. Youth group winner was Cub Scout Pack 229, Den 3, collecting 343 items. Top winners received Gift Cards or Gift Certificates from area business in the Camdenton and Osage Beach area.

Suzy Akers has been in the real estate profession for 11 years specializing in residential properties. Akers is a Graduate of REALTOR® Institute and currently serves as a State Director for the Bagnell Dam Association of REALTORS®. Heidi Ebert relocated to the Lake in 2002 from Minnesota. Ebert began her real estate career in 2003 as a Closing Coordinator and began selling in 2005. She’s a graduate of Star Power Buyer University and also of Brian Buffini’s 100 Days to Greatness Program in 2007. Ebert’s mission statement is “Building Lasting Relationships One Client at a Time.” Ebert is a member of the National Association of REALTORS®, Missouri Association of REALTORS®, and Bagnell Dam Association of REALTORS®.

Lake Regional Surgeon Discusses LAP-BAND® Surgery

Lake Regional Health System will hold an informational forum on the LAP-BAND® Adjustable Gastric Banding System for area residents from 10 to 11:30 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 19. The forum will be held in the third floor conference rooms at Lake Regional Hospital in Osage Beach. Attendance is required to be considered for the program.



Lake Regional Surgeon Mark Drake, D.O., will discuss the popular weight-loss procedure. He also will answer common questions prospective candidates have about requirements for the procedure and the dietary changes required of patients after surgery.

Lake Regional surgeons, including Dr. Drake, now offer the LAP-BAND® procedure for patients who meet certain eligibility requirements. Those interested in learning more about this weight-loss option are encouraged to attend this free informational meeting.

Lake Regional Surgeon Appointed to Cancer Commission Position

Lake Regional Health System General Surgeon Mark Drake, D.O., recently received a three-year appointment by the American College of Surgeons’ Commission on Cancer to serve as cancer liaison physician for Lake Regional’s accredited cancer program.

Dr. Drake is among a national network of more than 1,600 volunteer physicians who are responsible for providing leadership and direction to establish, maintain and support their facilities’ cancer programs. He has a significant interest in the diagnosis and treatment of patients with malignant diseases and is a member of Lake Regional’s multidisciplinary cancer committee.

As cancer liaison physician, Dr. Drake works with Lake Regional Cancer Center staff to facilitate the submission, presentation, use and interpretation of data from the CoC’s National Cancer Database. He also is responsible for spearheading CoC initiatives within Lake Regional’s cancer program; collaborating with local agencies, such as the American Cancer Society; and facilitating quality improvement initiatives using NCDB data. In addition, Dr. Drake facilitates participation in the Commission’s Facility Information Profile System — a data-sharing activity between the CoC and the ACS. The system provides public information about resources, services and annual cancer cases diagnosed at CoC-accredited facilities online at www.cancer.org.

The Commission on Cancer is a consortium of 44 professional organizations dedicated to improving the survival and quality of life for cancer patients. The Commission achieves its goal through standard-setting, cancer prevention, research and educational activities, as well as monitoring comprehensive quality care. Its membership includes national organizations representing the full spectrum of cancer care and Fellows of the American College of Surgeons. Currently, there are more than 1,400 CoC-accredited cancer programs in the United States and Puerto Rico, and approximately 80 percent of newly diagnosed cancer patients are treated in these institutions.

Lake Regional Health System provides comprehensive cancer care services, including chemotherapy, radiation therapy, diagnostic imaging and surgery, for lake-area residents and visitors. The hospital is accredited by The Joint Commission and is a past recipient of the Missouri Quality Award.

Lake Regional Welcomes First New Baby in 2010

Micah Kaige Colwell, son of Tim and Kim Colwell of Brumley, Mo., is Lake Regional Health System’s 2010 New Year’s baby. Micah was born at 9:53 a.m. Jan. 1. He weighed seven pounds, four ounces and was 20 1/2 inches long.

Micah’s paternal grandparents are Dwight and Patsy Boren of Crocker, Mo., and his maternal grandparents are Paul and Sherry Pritchett and Ken and Brenda Pritchett of Iberia, Mo. He has one brother, Kadyn Colwell.

As the New Year’s baby, Micah received a $100 savings bond donated by Central Bank of Lake of the Ozarks and a portable play yard donated by Lake Regional Health System.

Lake Regional Health System provides comprehensive health care services to the residents and visitors of the lake region. The hospital is accredited by The Joint Commission and is a past recipient of the Missouri Quality Award. Lake Regional Health System also operates primary care, urgent care, specialty and rehab therapy clinics, retail pharmacies and home health services throughout the lake area.
